About me

Hi!

My name is Tiziana - you can call me Tiz. I’m a passionate and enthusiastic languages teacher and tutor.

My mother tongue is Italian but I have always been fascinated by other countries and cultures. When I was 11, I started studying Foreign Languages and, since then, I’ve never stopped. English and French were soon followed by Spanish. After my Bachelor Degree, I spent some time in Germany to learn the language and know the country. In 2017, I moved to the UK, where I specialised and achieved my PGCE and QTS to teach Foreign Languages. However, I firmly believe that you never stop being a learner in your life and, recently, I am proud to say, I have started to learn a new language: Welsh.

Qualifications and achievements

  • GCSE and A-Level equivalent in Modern Foreign Languages (Grade A).

  • BA Hons (1st Class) in Foreign Languages and Literatures (English and French), University of Messina

  • PGCE and QTS (Pass with Merit) in Secondary French and Spanish, University of Reading.

  • FCE (B2) and C2 Mastery certificates for English as a second spoken language.

  • DiplĂ´me de Stage, Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, Paris.

  • Integrationskurs (A2) for German, VHS in Villingen-Schwenningen.

  • Spanish Subject Knowledge Enhancement course, Royal Grammar School in Guildford.

Teaching Experience

For over ten years, I have tutored secondary school students in Italy to achieve equivalent degrees to GCSE and A-Level. I also prepared young and adult learners for achieving international qualifications such as DELF (French) and FCE (English), as well as entry exams for European universities.

Since I have been in England, I have taught French and Italian as a home tutor to KS2 and KS3 pupils and adult learners. As a teacher, I teach French and Spanish in secondary schools, having also an active participation in the Languages Department to promote events and run an Italian Club.

Teaching Approach

With experience, I have learnt that approach is very important. My students are first and foremost individuals. By giving them confidence and trust, I believe they can succeed.

I like using a multitude of strategies which include, among others, games, flash cards, summaries, mind maps, outlines. I’m also creative and resourceful in using technology to stimulate learners’ curiosity. Nothing indeed gives me more satisfaction than seeing the curiosity in their eyes.

Each person learns in a different way, that’s why all of my lessons are tailored according to their needs, and take into consideration their strengths and their weaknesses. Lessons are delivered in a friendly environment in which learners can study at their own pace and, especially, feeling at ease without hesitating to ask questions and go deeper into each aspect of the language.
